Curriculum Planning and Designing

The teaching features of the GE of Nanya are HSTS 」 (Humanity, Science, Technology, Society). They integrate all the GE courses with those of professional subjects, with required 20 credits, and some related GE activities in hopes to elevate the quality of GE.

一、 Curriculum Planning and Designing

(一) four-year college------30 credits of required GE courses
20 credits being required courses: Applied Chinese(2), Literature Appreciation(2), English Reading $ Discussion(4), English Listening & Conversation(2), Introduction to History(2), Constitution(2), Communication $ Expression(2), Fine Arts(2)

10 credits being elective courses: The aim of the elective course design emphasizes the integration of the 「 HSTS 」 (Humanity, Science, Technology, and Society). The 「 HSTS 」 is divided into eight categories----the humanities, arts, society, economy, life education, life, nature, and health.

(二) Two-year college-----12 credits of required GE courses
Applied Chinese(2), Applied English(2), History & Culture(2), Constitution(2), Law & Current Issues(2), Knowledge-based GE(2)

二、 Curriculum Features

(一) The GE curriculum courses at Nanya emphasize the thought of humanities, Science, Technology, and Social Science. The balanced development in 「 HSTS 」 can be achieved by means of the discussion and independence thinking between educators and learners.

(二) Implement of four-year GE courses －
　　　　 -----Fundamental compulsory course: 20 common required credits .

　　　　 -----Core compulsory course: students have to choose one 2-credit course from the following courses ： History of Science, Philosophy of Life, Philosophy of Science, Introduction to HSTS, Science & Technology on the reflection on Politics, Human and Environment.

　　　　 -----Elective courses: Students of department of Applied Foreign Language/Information Management/Business Administration/Early Childhood Care and Education/Finance/Tourism & Leisure Management are required to select at least 4 credits in related to the fields of nature, life, society, health and economy.

Students of department of Material and Fiber/Mechanical Engineering/Chemical and Material Engineering/Civil and Environment Engineering/Architect/Computer Science and Informational Engineering are required to select at least 4 credits in related to the fields of humanity, art, economy, life and society.

A series of lectures on STS, lectures on Humanities and lectures on literature are organized to develop the students' cultivation of humanity.
